About This Game

General Information

Juan Torres and his family were the target of an uncountable number of rumors and several disappearances that took place in El Chacal, a small village of around 4,800 inhabitants, located in the arid mountainous region of Salta, a province of Argentina.

Among the stories spread around the surrounding villages, legends involving cannibalism, black magic, sects and all kinds of superstitions were heard.

It was also said that Juan Torres was the heir of a large fortune and, somehow, with no claim raised against him, he and his family managed to control the entire town and establish their own law.

The family was made up of Juan, Celia Torres and his only child, Jeronimo.


Doorways is an episodic game, it's divided in three parts and they can be played separately:

I prefer the other Doorways Prelude and Underworld I am not fussed on this one.. almost sha-ha-ha-hat my pants

play it. headache/10. Game looks really nice (as for an early acces game), nice atmosphere. Cons: laggy on my laptop, even on very low settings (i7-2630qm, radeon 6770m 2gb, 8gb ram, Win10)?. Solid end to the Doorways series. Each act focuses on a different member of the Torres family, who challenge us to pay attention to our surroundings, complete mind-bending puzzles and think outside of the box, all the while providing us with more than a fair share of horrific imagery.

. so, I found out *after* purchasing this that it's connected somehow to other games in a series. which is quite a big detail to miss in the naming of the game itself. because of this mistake I have no idea how I should be reviewing this as a whole, as all I can really do is review this title specificly. what exactly have I missed?

the game begins as the player descends some sort of tower into a hellish landscape. though it's quickly hinted at that you're inside the mind of a physopath or a killer. there's a sea of exploding lava a couple of miles below you and rocks flying and spinning above you which is overcasting a blood red sky. all in all it's quite a cool setting, which is also suprisngly stable, especially given that this is a indie title.

you seen happen upon a town, which is filled with dark secrets. I know this because as I enter some buildings my ability to control the character is reduced as I'm forced to listen to something. which is really quite annoying, though is something quite usual in horror games for some reason. any chance of an "Immersive" story is immediatly taken away at this point. the town splits off into a few different sections, which quietly attribute to the thought of being in someone's mind in their own little way. quite a difficult thing to pull off.

the game really begins once you've reached the school and you meet the monster, or at least the first one that will appear in this title. the introduction to the monster is done horribly, it's something that will only appear in darkness to attack you, but first appears half basked in the light which lead me to quite a bit of confusion until I figured out how this monster opperates exactly. immediatly it would have been better to have this monster appear in the players vision in darkness, only for it to disapear when some light randomly turns on. from here on out it's "be afraid of the spooky scary dark" as the player goes through several different light puzzles in order to safely navagiate a room.


the final nail in the coffin comes from the fact that the school itself is, well, a school for schoolchildren. whereas the final sequence involves a lot of dismembered adult body parts strewn around everywhere and the player running through many racks of cages with adults slamming on the bars as a spooky darkness approaches. did the school change to a high school or college at some point? is this really how they advertise their early access product with such an inaccuracy? this is proof of concept stuff right here, not anything which actually indicates any amount of development, usually I would overlook something like this given that it is early access, but... the assets used look as if they were placed there to stay there, with no intention of changing it later<\/span><\/span>

there are many things about this game that show promise. the animations are great, art is great, modeling is great, sound is not the greatest but is definetly at a level I would call highly passable, but it looks as if the designer is quite heavily asleep at the wheel and has little concept of what horror is or how to actually implement it.

maybe I'm wrong and this game will turn out great, but initial impressions aren't great.. Early days.
I was not impressed by Doorways 1,2 and 3 but since I got them cheap on sale I tried my best to work through them.
Lets see where this new attempt goes.
I tried nearly an hour and once the jump scares began repeating themselves I began to lose interest. I think that because the environment (the hellish landscape) is so over the top it kind of renders the jumpscares weak.

Still it's early days lets see if the designers can come up with answers. I still hold out hope ....I paid for it didn't I. Come on guys don't let me down.

We have just made another quick update. This one is for an important bug fix for the Steam OS and Linux version: a crash in some computers during the Loading Screens and when you change the video quality to Medium or higher.

We've been very busy and a bit complicated lately, but loosing no time :)

First of all, we have the release date confirmed for the final version of Doorways: Holy Mountains of Flesh, which will include the third and final Act "The Temple"
It will be available outside Early Access on August 10th (Wednesday). That's it, in less than a month!

Hope you've been doing great all this time.

We have just made another quick update.
This one includes performance upgrades at El Chacal and an important bug fix which used to crash the game for memory problems.

We also included a version for Mac OS X. It still needs some work so all your feedback will be welcome.

Hello everybody! How are you this week?

First of all, we have just updated the game to version 1.2, we mostly improved the performance issues for all the sceneries (mostly for the maps at El Chacal).

We also got working the last version of the engine (Unity 5.4).

And fixed general bugs we found at the forum. Thanks to all the people that gave us feedback!

But that’s not everything we want to tell you here. We’re preparing something special for next week. It’s something for you: the fans of the series...

Hello everybody! How have you been all this time?

We’ve been doing well, working hard on Act 2 and on the Transition Map.

What is the Transition Map?

As we mentioned, there’re going to be a total of three Acts in the game (The School, The Mansion and The Temple), but there’s actually another scenery in the game.

We’re talking about El Chacal, the town which is the transition between the houses, parks and the main places in the story (the three Acts).

But this map isn’t just an ordinary level, since it’s part of the Doorways universe.

El Chacal is a group of floating islands over fire and magma, in a desolated world of flames.

That’s right, if you don’t believe us, here is a top view:

El Chacal will be visited at the beginning of the game and after finishing each Act.

In the next update we’ll be sharing you the first part of El Chacal: just before entering into The School. Then, in future updates you will revisit the town, then the Second Act, and so on.

¡Hola a todos! ¿Cómo han estado todo este tiempo?

Por acá venimos muy bien, trabajando de lleno en el Acto 2 y en el Mapa de Transición.

¿Qué es el Mapa de Transición?

Si bien, y como antes les comentamos, el juego está compuesto por tres Actos (La Escuela, La Mansión y El Templo), hay también un nivel más.

Se trata del pueblo de El Chacal, que comunica las casas de los pueblerinos, con el centro, la plaza y los lugares de importancia de la historia (los tres Actos).

Pero dicho escenario no es un pueblo ordinario, dado que éste pertenece al universo de Doorways: El Chacal es un rejunte de islas flotando sobre fuego y brasas en un mundo desolado y en llamas.

Así es, por si no nos creen, acá pueden ver una vista aérea:

El Chacal será visitado al comienzo del juego y luego de concluir cada Acto.

En la próxima actualización, estaremos publicando la primera parte de El Chacal: justo antes de entrar a La Escuela. Más adelante se visitará nuevamente el pueblo, luego el Acto 2 y así sucesivamente.
